I love art! In all its shapes and forms, and more than that, I love to create art. I can’t think of a time in my life when I haven’t been making or creating something, even when it was just as a hobby. It is something that makes me happy, deep down, and I hope that comes through in the work and videos I produce.
I am an internationally award-winning Polymer Clay artist who also paint in oils, and I started creating these polymer clay tutorials as my way of giving back to the polymer clay community and hopefully inspiring others to take up this wonderful medium.
I have a website which showcases my work - www.fionaabel-smith.co.uk/

Quick and Easy Bumblebee Wings
You can make simple but effective thin and clear wings following this tutorial. So, have some fun and make your own, for all your art/craft projects. Please excuse my voice in this one, thankfully I don’t speak much as I had a very sore throat, but I add the written instructions for you, and all the links you need are detailed here.
The music from the video is English Country Garden by Aaron Kenny and Waterfall by Aakash Gandhi, and both are available from the UA-cam Free Audio Library.
I have artworks and tutorials available from my Etsy shop, PolyOriginals - www.etsy.com/uk/shop/PolyOriginals

I use UV Resin, and as I am one of many people who react to resin, I always wear protective mask and goggles, so please make sure you are safe when using resin, and definitely work in a well-ventilated area at all times.
I have used 3 brands of UV resin in the past to make these wings and all work well. In this instance I used the JDiction brand as I wanted a yellow tinge to the wings. All the brands sell products that you can use to tint your clear UV resin, and many also sell the coloured resin too.

The marker pen I used for the veins is from the Sakura Pigma Micron set, and can be found from many outlets online, or it looks like they can be bought separately here - www.cassart.co.uk/sakura-pigma-micron-pens/
I regularly cut out any useful and clean, clear acetate from packaging if it’s big enough to use in my Polymer Clay projects. I am however very careful cutting it out, the edges can be sharp, and I round off the corners. It is useful for many projects, including these wings.
If you have any problem getting the wings off the acetate sheet, then hold a polymer clay blade or craft knife at about 45 degree angle to the edge of a wing and tap it, it should then ping off, but may take a few tries.
Above all have fun with your crafts and thank you for watching.

So life like. Thanks 🤗
When you mentioned carving I was taken back to my primary school days where we carved into lino. Those were the days😃. Thank you again as always.🤗
As a newbie who hasn't yet plundged into actually creating anything. I'm just watching all the creators and tutorials that i like, finding some better than others(in my opinion lol). Do you have a 'dictonary' of the colours you've found during your clay journey? Or do you realy on these videos? I would love to see your creative area to see what you use for producing such beautiful creations. I'm just collecting together the tools and clays at present😃. I too live in UK and was wondering where you purchase your polymer clay as in a previous video you mentioned that you got through many packets a week? Thanks again, your videos are so clear and informative. Have a good Bank Holiday🤗
Thank you. I noticed that you swap ends each time you put the clay through
well spotted, and yes it becomes an automatic thing to do after a while, thank you 🙂
Absolutely fantastic tutorial. I was amazed at how you conditioned the crumbly clay. Thank you.🤗
you're welcome, thanks so much 🙂
You use such lovely brightly coloured canes. Thank you for your time. Have a good Bank holiday 2024🤗
Thanks so much - you too 🙂
I absolutely love watching you and I love your pieces. I’ve been working with clay for about two months and have such a hard time reducing anything I try to make. You all give such good techniques but all I get is a mess. If I ever get one right I’ll have to celebrate. Thank you for teaching.
Don't be too hard on yourself, you are probably doing much better than you think - we are all our own worst critics. Reducing canes is something that takes time to learn how to do effectively and easily. Try to be even with your prressure along the length, apply the same pressure each time you rotate, and probably press in less hard than you are at the moment. It's more of a persuasion, than a hard press 😉 and if you have some spare scrap clay, then make that into a square or triangle shape and practice, practice, practice, using that first, till you start to get a feel for the pressure and rhythm you need. You will get there, we all did, and we all had to learn the same way. And yes, absolutley celeberate away when it suddenly goes right for you. I hope that helps a bit and lets you know we've all been there when we were learing 🙃🙂
Beautiful. Thank you for your time🤗
You're welcome, glad you're enjoying them, thank you 😌
Stunning and good for a beginner. Thank you🤗
So glad it was useful, thanks very much 🙂
I always come to your polymer clay videos, I always know I get clear instruction and a beautiful art piece, even if it’s not quite how yours turns out. Polymer clay is my novice hobby, and you really make it enjoyable, thank you Fiona for these tutorials!
I am so glad you like them, thank you very much 🙂
These are great, love them a lot. Thank you for sharing❤🇨🇦❤️
Wonderful, thanks so much Brenda 🙂
Lindo! Que perfeição. ❤
Muchas gracias 🙂
Oh, Fiona!! What a great idea! Thanks so much. You made it look simple.
I am so glad you like it, and if you follow thorugh slowly, step by step it is relatively simple, thank you 🙂
I love your creativity.
Thank you very much 🙂
Thanks so helpful!!
Wonderful, thanks so much 🙂
What is the final number to see how thick or thin it is?
Sorry Donna, I am not quite sure what you are asking? I do show in the video the slices I take, and mention that people should take slices that they feel comforatble with - there is no set size for the thickness of the earrings, it depends on what the individula wants, I hope that helps? Thank you 🙂
I love this bookmark. I believe this is finally something I can make. Thank you!!🐢🐢
Wonderful, have fun and thank you 🙂
Just finished watching the tutorial for this cane. 🎉
wonderful, and I hope you have fun making some of your own. Thank you 🙂
Ohhh please Fiona a video on the bees, one of my daughters just loves bees, I’d love to make her some get well soon Fiona ❤❤❤
Thanks very much. The bees are incredibly fiddly to make, so I would need to refine the process in places to make them easier. I will see what I can do, but it will be a while as I have a lot on my plate at the moment. 🙂
No 2 has a fabulous scream like image.🎉
brilliant 🙂
I just purchased one of these. Fantastic.
That's great, where did you get it from? 👍🙂
I just noticed the marbles or ball bearings inside , perhaps helping the puzzle with moving.
@@willsshepherd2976 That sounds facinating, and yes there are so many different variations that can be achieved with the shapes - have fun with your new ones 🙂
So polymer clay does not stick or do we need to powder before working
Polymer clay shouldn't be overly sticky, and you can work with it easily - although some people do wear gloves, and that is always an option. So no, I do not powder my hands in any way when working, I hope that helps? Thank you.🙂
Shoolll
Thank you 🙂
Thank you so much for this tutorial you explain everything really clearly. I especially like when you say "don't rush" because i do tend to do that. This one has been the 1st kaleidoscope ive (semi) successfully done. I thought I'd wrecked it a couple of times, though but it worked out fine. ❤❤❤
I am so happy it came out okay and you are happy with it, that's great. And yes, we all have a tendancy to rush and put pressure on ourselves, but sometimes just settling in quietly and enjoying the process can bring it's own rewards. Thank you 🙂
Thanks for replying to my comment. I have started making these things just for the making and enjoying the process. It's much better than making for the finish you get. This way I don't pressure myself to make perfect things. It feels better to have some good and bad because that stops me from obsessing on getting it all perfect and the payoff when I do something really well it feels amazing. When people hear that I have crafty hobbies they're always trying to get me to sell stuff- no matter which craft it is. Its really annoying because I think monetising it will swiftly stop my enjoyment. Such bread-heads! Thank you
@@stacylohan7006 It's wonderful to hear how much you enjoy your art and crafts, fantastic, keep having fun 🙂
Excellent job... thank you!!!
I'm so glad you liked it, thank you 🙂
This absolutely amazing!!! I really thought you were going to paint on the clay! This is nothing short of a miraculous effort and patience! Thank you sooo much for sharing your incredible talent with us!❤🎉
I am so glad you liked it, have fun with any you do, and thanks so much 🙂
Does the produck dry on its own
No, this is oven bake Polymer Clay, not air dry clay, but it bakes at a low temperature and is safe to put into a normal oven 🙂
❤❤❤
Thanks so much 🙂
❤❤❤
Thank you so much 🙂
What
🤣😅Thank you 🙂
Mashallah,,so creative.just wow❤
wonderful, thanks so much 🙂
Thanks for the laughs, I love this video! Has anyone seen the episode of ghost adventures where Bag Zakans can't be arsed to turn up for his own "investigation"? He's just a face on a screen rolling around and at 1 point all the coms went down and the rest of the crew run off chasing a piece of dust and nobody will answer him on the radio. He is just stranded on a screen in a room like a spare prick at a wedding. I'm surprised he allowed the show to air, he looked so stupid. It was the last time I watched it because they were never gonna top that, even if the ghosts turn up saying "yeah we've been here all the time"
Hi, not sure if you meant to comment on this video, or you thought you were commenting on something else? Just asking as I know it's happened to poeple before - sadly I haven't seen Ghost Adventures, although this does make me want to 😉🙃🙂
Ha ha ahh I was watching one video on TV and yours on my tablet! I really wouldn't bother looking at ghost adventures because you'll never get that time back. The episode I was talking about would only be funny if you'd watched all the previous and it's not worth it. Thanks for replying though🎉
I was following your vid about using scrap clay in an extruder but when i had everything laid out i couldnt find my triange disc! D'oh@@FionaAbelSmithPolyOriginals
@@stacylohan7006 Oh nooo, hope you've found it now - I spent ages yesterday trying to find a specific cane in all my cane boxes, could I find it - No !!! So ended up making a new one to rpelace it - bet I find the old one now 🤣😛🙃🙂
Polymer clay is like a box of chocolates(as Forest Gump would say) .You never know what you're going to get! Loved it!
Wonderful, thank you so much 🙂
I hope you feel better soon. Thank you for the tutorial.
Thank you very much, and yes, feeling better already, 🙂
I love the colors you have used. I believe that these would make a wonderful mobile. Babies, as well as every other age, would love the colors. By the way, Fiona my love, whenever I feel down I just watch a few of your videos and I feel better. You are lovely.
awww, that's so lovely of you, thank you, and yes they would make a lovely mobile, you are right. Have fun, and thanks again 🙂
Thank you much , enjoyed making it

I think these are the most life-like bees i've ever seen. Hope your throat is better. Thank you🤗🇬🇧
That's wonderful, thanks so much, and yes, gradually getting better, thank you 🙂
Such an easy, but gorgeous way of doing little wings! I would love to see how you made the little bees also! Hope you feel better soon Fiona! 🩵🩵🩵
Wonderful and thanks for the good wishes, I am geting there 😉When I get a chance later in the year I will see what I can do, it would cover the bees, butterfly bodies and other small critters, but would need to be an Etsy one, to cover the costs of me writing it, thank you 🙃🙂
@FionaAbelSmithPolyOriginals would you ever consider doing video tutorials on Etsy for something like that? I've always wanted to buy one of your tutorials, but my brain just doesn't do well comprehending pictures.. I know it's a ton of work, so I wouldn't blame you if you didn't want to. Just an idea though!
@@My2Monkeeys I have thought about it, it would make things easier but I'm not quite sure how it works on Etsy, I will have to look into it - thank you 🙂
